Change of Program Form
Before beginning the application, please use the "What If" option in Degree Works to see how major, minor, or other requirements will be affected. Also see your academic advisor to determine how changing your catalog might impact your timeline to graduation. Consulting with financial aid counselors is advisable.
Things to Consider
- Students should have a declared major by the time 45 credits have been earned. It is recommended that students maintain their majors. Declaring or dropping a major is connected to faculty advisor assignments.
- General education requirements may be different depending on the college that houses your new major. Students are subject to the general education requirements that are required by each college.
- Program changes may result in additional credit hours, which may impact your financial aid.
- Selecting a catalog year for major requirements is an option for most students. Students have two options: the term of entrance or the term in which the major or minor is declared. If you are in a teacher licensure program, you are bound by the Illinois State Board of Education requirements that may shift during your tenure as a student.
Double Counting Credits
- Major limitation: 1/2 (50%) may double count. 50% of credits must be unique in both majors.
- Minor limitation: 2/3 (67%) may double count 33% of the credits must be unique.
Define Terms
- Double Major: Two majors in the same college that are the same type of degree, for example, BA Psychology and BA Sociology.
- Dual Degree: Two majors in either different colleges or two majors that are a different types of degree, for example, BA Visual Arts Education and BA Art or BA Psychology and BS Biology.
