Illinois Superintendent Endorsement

Concordia University Chicago was approved for the updated Illinois Superintendent Endorsement Program on October 6, 2017. Described in this section are the courses required for the Illinois Superintendent Endorsement on the professional educator license (PEL). 

Concordia University Chicago offers three pathways for students to pursue the Illinois Superintendent Endorsement. 

  • Pathway 1: Illinois Superintendent Endorsement Only.

  • Pathway 2: Illinois Superintendent Endorsement with the Ed.S. degree. Students in this program may apply for financial aid. Students must have a previous master’s degree in Education or related field. This is an advanced study beyond the master’s degree but does not require a dissertation.
  • Pathway 3: Illinois Superintendent Endorsement with Ed.D. (61 hours) or Ph.D. (67 hours). The first 30 hours of the superintendent program (10 courses) may be applied to the doctoral program. 

The 30 semester hours of credit (primarily face to face) must be beyond the master's degree level.
