Concordia University Chicago was approved for the updated Illinois Superintendent Licensure Program on October 6, 2017. Described in this section are the courses required for Illinois Superintendent Licensure on the professional educator license (PEL).
Concordia University Chicago offers three pathways for students to pursue Illinois Superintendent Licensure.

Pathway 1: Illinois Superintendent Licensure Only.
- Pathway 2: Illinois Superintendent Licensure with the Ed.S. degree. Students in this program may apply for financial aid. Students must have a previous master’s degree in Education or related field. This is an advanced study beyond the master’s degree but does not require a dissertation.
- Pathway 3: Illinois Superintendent Licensure with Ed.D. (61 hours) or Ph.D. (67 hours). The first 30 hours of the superintendent program (10 courses) may be applied to the doctoral program.
The 30 semester hours of credit must be beyond the master's degree level.
