CLED-6000: Foundations of Classical Education (3 hours)
Key theologies, philosophies, and foundational documents that shape classical education, school culture, and pedagogy. Role of distinctive Lutheran teachings in a Liberal Arts education.
CLED-6100: Teaching the Trivium (3 hours)
Examination of the disciplines of the Trivium (Grammar, Logic, and Rhetoric) and their relationship with the larger curriculum. Emphasis on primary source material and pedagogical methods.
CLED-6150: Teaching the Quadrivium (3 hours)
Examination of the disciplines of the Quadrivium (Arithmetic, Geometry, Music, and Astronomy) and their relationship with the larger curriculum. Emphasis on primary source material and pedagogical methods.
CLED-6200: Teaching Virtue through Classical Texts (3 hours)
Survey of education as teaching truth, goodness, and beauty, distinguishing the righteousness of God from secular morality. This course will explicitly consider enduring texts as a means for teaching virtuous living and cultivating school culture.
CLED-6300: Teaching Language (3 hours)
Examination of the discipline of language learning and its unity with the larger curriculum. Emphasis on primary source material and pedagogical methods. Introductory facility in a classical language, equivalent to one college course, is recommended prior to taking CLED-6300.
CLED-6400: Teaching Exceptional Scholars (3 hours)
Equipping teachers and administrators to provide a classical education for scholars with unique needs. Considerations will include scholars with challenges, disabilities, and accelerated learning. Prerequisite: B or higher in CLED-6000, CLED-6100, and CLED-6150, or Division Chair approval.
